Vivienne Westwood’s personal wardrobe is under the hammer

An exceptional upcoming fashion auction. Vivienne Westwood’s personal wardrobe will be sold on June 25 in London during the first auction, while at the same time a second web sale is scheduled for June 14-28. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to charities, such as the Vivienne Foundation, Amnesty International, and Doctors Without Borders.

Andreas Kronthaler, husband of Vivienne Westwood, who is also the artistic director of the house, in agreement with the legendary English designer, some time before her death on December 29, 2022, selected the personal pieces as well as the creations of her most emblematic collections. In total, more than 200 items, including clothing, jewelry and accessories, will be sold at the event.

It will be possible to see them from June 14 to 24 during a free exhibition entitled Vivienne Westwood: Personal CollectionAt King Street in London, where Christie’s, which organizes these auctions, is located. “Vivienne Westwood’s innate energy and artistic and stylistic sense are underpinned in every piece she creates,” says Adrian Hume Sayer, sales director and director of the “Private and Creative Collection” at the English auction house. Two auctions “will celebrate his exceptional vision through a selection of pieces representing defining moments in his work, but also in his personal life.”

Among the pieces for sale are silhouettes from one of his first collections, the “Witches Collection” Fall/Winter 1983/84, and those from the “Dressed to Scale” collection, from Fall/Winter 1998/99 with one of his famous corset dresses. From silk taffeta inspired by the 18th century, or even models from the “Propaganda” fall-winter 2005/2006 collection, with a more overtly political character, as the British designer paid tribute to the punk period.
