An environmental book-review designed to answer climate skeptics

“This guide came out of a sense of personal frustration,” explains Margot Jacques. Presenter of workshops such as “Climate Mural”, “2-Tone Workshop” or “Let’s Invent Our Low Carbon Life”, she publishes “A Little Guide to Ecological Dissemination”, published by Les Liens qui Libération. The opportunity to give everyone the opportunity to refute the arguments of the most skeptical.

Climate emergency VS growing skepticism

Once you realize what is happening, it is difficult to turn back or turn a blind eye to it. So sometimes it may be easier to question or even discredit the word of science. However, since the Earth is round, experts are unanimous: it is warming up, and that is not good news.

In her book, Margot Jacques identifies six categories of skeptics. So the environmental response will be different depending on who we talk to:

  • New skeptics: “I wish Lille had the climate of Marseille” or “There have always been variations in temperature.”
  • Cognitive dissonance: “Yes, I know it’s not good to fly, but I’m not going to give up traveling.”
  • Immobilists: “It is useless to act alone” or “It’s already too late anyway.”
  • Outspoken optimists: “What you are doing is great, I couldn’t do it.”
  • Techno-deciders: “Planes are now green!” ” or “Who told us that we won’t find a new resource on another planet? »
  • Eco(nomic)-anxious: “The ecological transition is expensive! ” or “We must feed the entire population well.”

In this book, Margot deconstructs 35 anti-environmental discourses that promote inaction. It examines certain preconceived ideas, provides scientific facts, and proposes alternatives to the current model to open the field of possibilities for a desirable, fairer, more respectful world of life.
