The Museum of Modern Art in Paris presents the rediscovery of the diversity of Arab modernisms in the twentieth century and the renewal of the historical perspective of art scenes that are still little known in Europe. A selection of more than 200 copies, for the public exhibitions in France, the exhibition “Présences of Arabs – Modern Art and Decolonization – Paris 1908-1988” met in the light of the relationship between Arab artists in Paris, all over the world. Twentieth century.

Critics’ opinion:

  • Stephan Coryard Sorry for the slight lack of clarity: “This exhibition is a big thanksgiving place in which we place all the artists who have had a connection with Paris and the Arab world.“.
According to him, it is very difficult to understand the unity of what appears to us because there is “Two lines are constantly intertwined, one artistic and the other political, and the critical apparatus never untangles this thread“.
  • according to Sally Boone“It’s an exhibition”“Broad and important, it allows us to understand decolonization because it reveals what colonialism does to art and artists.”.
She points out that many writers and poets accompany the artists and exhibitions, and the connection to Paris is highlighted to show the importance of exile.
She realizes that the exhibition is complex to understand, but insists on the fact that it nonetheless allows discoveries to be made.
