From assessment to expectation: Kenny Piperol analyzes Niji40 and is already preparing Transat Québec/Saint-Malo

Keni Piperol, accompanied by teammates Thomas Jourdren and Lomano Takasi, at the helm of the Class40 “Captain Alternance”, achieved fifth place during the Niji40 in Marie-Galante on April 22, 2024. In an interview he gave us, the skipper shares. his feedback on this competition, discusses the collaboration with his two teammates, and discusses future projects, especially the next Transat Québec/Saint-Malo race.

“The transatlantic race was not easy. On the northern route we passed a total of three fronts. We lived crookedly for a very long time, before we finally had the trade winds. At the finish we came in fifth place…”

These words are those of Keni Piperol, expressed on the dock in Saint-Louis on Monday, April 22, after crossing the finish line at 10:39 p.m. Accompanied by Lomano Takasi, originally from Wallis and Futuna, making his first transatlantic crossing, and Thomas Jourdren, his teammate with whom he had already participated in the Transat Jacques Vabre, Keni Piperol and his crew aboard the Captain Alternance deckchair Belle -Île completed the -More / Marie-Galante in Guadeloupe.

In total, the crew sailed 4,023.36 nautical miles at an average speed of 10.71 knots, taking 15 days, 15 hours, 39 minutes and 18 seconds to get from Belle-Île-en-Mer to Marie-Galante, in Guadeloupe.

Kenny Piperol looks back on this sailing experience and discusses future projects, especially the next Transat Québec / Saint-Malo race, which will bring together more than sixty sailboats from June 30 to July 3, 2024.
