INTERVIEW. Oyonnax – Castres: “We have a chance to qualify, so we have to maximize it”, assures three-quarter coach David Darricarrère before the trip to Ain

the necessary
Officially appointed in Brive on Thursday, April 25, the CO-backs coach is determined to pull the Castres group to the top as much as possible. David Darricarrère talks about visiting Oyonnax this Saturday (5pm), on the occasion of the twenty-second day of the French Championship.

Your arrival at Brive was made official by CAB this Thursday. Can you reconsider your choice?
We’ll talk about that later. A new adventure begins. Castres and Brive have two completely different projects, but each is as exciting as the other.

Did finding Pierre-Henry Broncan tip the scale?
It obviously played a role. I am happy to see Pierre again, with whom I have a great connection.

You wanted to extend two or three years in CO when President Revol suggested one year to adjust to the contract of the other members of the staff. Are you disappointed to leave?
Now is not the time to talk about all this, and what happens next with Brive. We’ll do that later. Today my head is on the board so that we have the best possible season with Castres. We still have a chance to qualify, so we have to maximize it with our work.

It’s this win against La Rochelle that still keeps you alive. Of course she left all the plans to the end?
Yes because she validated a period of fifteen days to three weeks of work after the disappointment in Perpignan. This success put us back on track at the accounting level, as it was a key meeting. It was also good from a confidence point of view because this time we managed to have that little extra that made us win at the end of the game.

Did it give you more confidence because of the way you won?
The accuracy of our play was not right, our rugby was not up to par. We weren’t all on the same wavelength. Last weekend we were there from start to finish. The players did not lock into a rugby ping-pong or attacking defense. We got into the goal six times, although three attempts were denied. It was a great achievement.

Is this victory a sign that OC has reached a level on the mental aspect and put this difficult period aside?
So I will tell you after our match at Oyonnax. We will see how we behave out there where we have been a bit apathetic in recent times. This game in Oyo is worth a lot for the rest of the season.
