Caroline Garcia defeats Wang Xinyu in the second round of the Madrid tournament

Caroline Garcia qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid this Friday by defeating China’s Wang Xinyu in two sets and 1 hour 16 minutes (6-1, 6-4). The Frenchwoman, seeded number 21 in this tournament, flew through the first set where she lost just five points in total on serve. As a token, she also ended this round with an ace.

Effective in all areas, she ultimately had only herself to blame for a slight lack of realism in her conclusion, letting three set points slip away on her opponent’s serve before finally pocketing it.

Paolini or Jimenez Kasintseva in the next round

The second set was a bit more complicated as Garcia notably conceded his serve twice (8 break points for the Chinese in total). But she knew how to accelerate at the right time, breaking her opponent at 4-4 before decisively throwing the match away on her second match point, an excellent, powerful serve, finishing easily at the net.

In the third round, Garcia will meet the winner of the match between Italian Jasmine Paolini (seed number 12) and Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.
