The resignation of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue has been accepted, the Communist Party of Vietnam announced on Friday.

“The violations and shortcomings of Comrade Vuong Dinh Hue caused a bad opinion of the public, affected the reputation of the Party, the state and others personally,” the party’s statement said.

Former finance minister Vuong Dinh Hue, 67, has been serving as speaker of the National Assembly since 2021. However, his resignation still needs to be approved by lawmakers next May.

The departure comes against the backdrop of an anti-corruption campaign that has led to the resignation of several top political leaders in recent months.
