Maniema: Media involved in raising awareness about the fight against malaria

The Provincial Coordinator of the Malaria Control Program (PNLP) in Maniema called on Friday, April 25, for media professionals to participate in raising awareness about the fight against malaria.

She stated this during a briefing organized in Kindu on the occasion of World Malaria Day, which is celebrated annually on April 25.

Dr Amina Olimba, the monitoring and evaluation officer at PNLP, says she chose the media because it has a large reach through pens and microphones.

The journalists present at this meeting mostly supported this request.

“Personally, I am happy because as a result of this activity I have acquired concepts that can allow me to raise public awareness of the risks associated with this disease, which remains the main reason for consultations in health structures,” emphasized Gentil Muyombo from Radio Mali. .

This journalist has also taken it upon himself to raise awareness among the people of Maniema about the use of insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets to protect themselves from the disease.

For his part, KFM radio journalist Kleofas Bila promised to convey the message of the PNLPS to the communities:

“I am committed to raising awareness to protect families from malaria. “I will raise their awareness, speak to them and speak loudly about the extent of malaria in our province.”

In Maniema, Malaria Day was themed “Health equity, gender equality and human rights”.
