Renewable energies: Wallis and Futuna go green

A general power outage in Valais is expected on Sunday, May 5, 2024. The company EEWF plans extensive work on the network to adapt it to the use of renewable energy sources.

The Wallis and Futuna company Engie has announced a general power outage in Valais from the weekend of May 4 to 5, 2024.

An operation to renew network control equipment, thermal energy production and renewable energy.

It is a whole system that needs to be updated to take into account the production of green energy.

In fact, the three solar parks on the island went into operation in March 2023.

Nowadays, 15% of the energy comes from these solar parks. Energy injected directly back into the EEWF electricity network. This can supply approximately one hundred households with electricity.

Solar energy is converted and injected directly into the AC grid. So there is no real risk to electricity. We put the three solar parks into operation in 2023 and let’s say that this allowed us to save the use of a group and that it also saved us diesel.
