Fountains turn red after dark, that’s why

The pink city turns red. On the occasion of bladder monthToulouse urologists decided to paint some fountains red. Target? Raise awareness of urinary tract cancer by remembering effect 1uh symptom in 80% of cases.

An unprecedented operation

For this Fourth edition, the city’s urology experts hope to mark the occasion. Invented French Association of Urology (AFU), uniting 90% of French urologists, this initiative aims to symbolize the presence of blood in the urine as the first warning sign of bladder cancer. Indeed, this pathology, still too little known to the general public, nevertheless represents 13,000 to 20,000 people annually in France.

It is the second most common urological cancer and the fourth most common in the entire country. Fact, the water of the six large fountains will be highlighted in red after dark throughout May. Here are the relevant sites:

  • Wilson Place
  • Trinity Square
  • Dupuis Square
  • Puy-Clos Square
  • Grand Ronde Garden
  • Courthouse

This operation, supported by the City Hall of Toulouse, aims to make bladder cancer a more visible disease. That’s why stickers placed near water points will display the slogan of this new campaign: “Red urine, I’m moving.” QR codes will also appear on stickers, allowing passers-by to go to dedicated pages of the Ukrainian Armed Forces website with one click.

Finally, information meetings were also held at the end of April to directly exchange views with the residents of Toulouse. A unique opportunity to witness this atypical sight and learn about the warning signs of bladder cancer.
