Banjul: OIC summit welcomes Morocco’s initiatives at regional and multilateral levels

Banjul – At the 15th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Banjul in the Republic of The Gambia, the initiatives of the Kingdom of Morocco at the regional and multilateral level were welcomed.

The final statement approving the work of this summit praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco to bring together the viewpoints of the Libyan protagonists.

The summit welcomes the Kingdom’s efforts to gather the views of Libyan protagonists and gather them around the dialogue table, as part of a series of meetings held in Morocco, with the aim of advancing the political solution process, in accordance with the Skhirat Agreement, concluded in 2015, to achieve the expected political solution , it is emphasized in the Press Release.

On the other hand, the OIC summit also welcomed the “Rabat Declaration”, adopted at the end of the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries in February 2024, which called for the consolidation of the participation of these countries in global governance and to promote the Friendship Group of Middle-Income Countries revenues, to become the official government platform for dialogue, awareness-raising and coordination on development issues.

The summit also welcomed the efforts made by the Kingdom in the fight against terrorism, welcoming, in this sense, the selection of Morocco by the United Nations as a partner to host the Office of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism and Training Program in Africa.

At the same time, the summit in Banjul praised the Moroccan experience in the fight against terrorism, through the chairmanship of the Think Tank of the Global Coalition to Defeat the Islamic State (Daesh/ISIS) in Africa, and the Kingdom’s organization of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Global Coalition against Daesh in Marrakesh. 11.05.2022.

In the field of migration, the OIC Summit praised the pioneering role of His Majesty King Mohammed VI as a champion of migration issues at the African level and the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco to fully play its role as a leading country in the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration.

On the other hand, the Summit welcomed the election of Morocco to head the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) for 2024, in recognition of the international community for its role in defending central human rights issues.

He also welcomed the Marrakesh Declaration, which is the result of the first international seminar on implementation, reporting and monitoring in the field of human rights, held in Marrakesh in December 2022.

Likewise, the OIC Summit welcomed the Kingdom of Morocco’s technical support to increase agricultural capacity and strengthen food security in many regions of the world, dedicating more than a quarter of its agricultural fertilizer production capacity to numerous countries with fragile agricultural systems, as well as allocating 4 million tons of fertilizer for improving food security in Africa by 2023, likely to increase productivity for 44 million farmers in 35 countries.

The summit in Banjul also welcomed the Kingdom of Morocco’s acquisition of “partner status for sectoral dialogue” with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which should be the crown of the process of dynamic partnerships between Morocco and the countries of Southeast Asia.

He also hailed the pioneering role of the Mohammed VI Center for the Dialogue of Civilizations in the Chilean city of Coquimbo, as a gateway for civilizational communication between the Islamic world and the Atlantic countries of Africa and Latin America.

15. The OIC Summit welcomed, in this sense, the resolution proposed by Morocco and unanimously adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations, on July 25, 2023, regarding “Fighting Hate Speech: Promotion of Interreligious, Intercultural Dialogue and Tolerance” .

On the other hand, the Final Communication praised Morocco for the inscription of the Malhoun heritage on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, during the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, held in Botswana23 in November 20, which aims to be an international recognition of the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco to protect and promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage, which brought the total number of cultural assets inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible World Heritage to 14.
