Football: Raymond Domenech was not re-elected as president of UNECATEF, the coaches’ association

After two consecutive mandates, Raymond Domenech is leaving the position of president of UNICATEF, the association of football coaches in France which he took over in 2016. The new election, which was organized this Monday in the French Football Federation during a general assembly, gave its verdict and awarded victory to the list of opponents to the former coach of the French team.

The opposition list decided to put Bernard Reuzeau, former director of the PSG and ASM training centers, at the head of the union. A decision led by the trio of Philippe Montanier, Claude Le Roy and Jacky Bonnevay. The new head of UNECATEF must now appoint the 20 members of the body’s new steering committee.

A very tense climate in recent months

A fall from grace of the former FC Nantes coach that can be explained by a tense atmosphere in the union itself, whose members accused Domenech “of locking the union and of taking decisions without adequate consultation”, according to the information of L’Équipe. Attacks to which the World Cup finalist in 2006 responded dryly: “Compared to this criticism, I am stunned. Those who criticized me were on the steering committee and had little investment.”

The National Union of French Football Coaches and Technical Executives (UNECATEF) was created in 1972 and aims to create solidarity between coaches and defend them against dismissals by obtaining financial compensation.
