Merville. For the Venice Carnival, the castle is transformed

Merville Castle will be decorated with lights to host the Venice Carnival, a colorful and historic event that promises to delight art and culture lovers. It will be held on the weekend of May 11 and 12, 2024. On this occasion, the Masked Rifle Association of France, an association active since 2006, will return for a spectacular fourth visit. “Visitors will have the honor of seeing a troupe of 26 dazzling characters develop in the formal rooms and paths of the castle garden, as well as in its famous labyrinth,” the organizers explain. These outings, set against a backdrop of classical music and opera from 18th-century Venice, will not be guided, allowing visitors to discover the fascinating costumes of the period at their own pace.

This event is not the only one organized this year at the Château de Merville. Many activities are offered each season for fans of the castle and this period of the 18th century. The place has been open to the public since 2005 and attracts more than 40,000 visitors annually.

Its 30-hectare shaded garden, its boxwood maze – the largest in Europe – as well as its historic paths provide an exceptional setting for events of all kinds. The website is titled “Wonderful Park” and “High Quality Tourism.”

In addition to the planned score for the animation about the Venice Carnival, costume and story specialists will accompany the costumes and comment on their origin and creativity. Festivities will take place from 11am to 5pm, with parades scheduled for 11:30am and 3:30pm daily. A special price is offered for this occasion, including entrance to the castle and the maze: €13.5 for children aged 4 to 12 years and €15.5 for adults.
