Bassirou Diomaye Faye declared winner with 54.28%

Bassirou’s opponent Diomaye Faye was declared the winner of last Sunday’s presidential election with 54.28 percent of the vote by the National Commission for the Registration of Votes, which released provisional results on Wednesday.

The outgoing government candidate, Amadou Ba, came second in the vote with a result of 35.79%, according to data released to the Dakar Court by the president of the National Commission for the List of Votes, Amady Diouf.

The candidate of PUR, Party of Unity and Gathering, Aliou Mamadou Dia, came in third place with 2.80%.

The Constitutional Council will announce the official and final results of the presidential elections in the coming days.

This step will be followed by the swearing-in of the president-elect and the official transfer of power with outgoing head of state Macky Sall, whose mandate ends on April 2.

More than 7 million voters were called to the polls on Sunday to choose Senegal’s fifth president from among 17 candidates running.
