(Agence Ecofin) – Morocco, Africa’s largest silver producer and one of the world’s leaders in phosphate, is home to other mineral resources underground, which several companies have launched to attack, including CMR.
In Morocco, Critical Mineral Resources’ (CMR) initial exploration work for its Ifri project confirmed the presence of copper, silver and gold in several areas. The company indicated that the analysis of samples taken at the site made it possible to intercept mineralization with a copper content of 3.1% and 17 g/ton silver, as well as 0.86 g/ton gold.
“We are very excited about the Ifri project and its potential to host both copper-silver and gold deposits. Ifri is located within a mineralized system and we will now focus on systematic exploration and drill target generation.” said CEO Charlie Long.
According to details read by Ecofin agencythe exploration program planned at Ifri includes detailed mapping, geochemical prospecting, geophysical work, as well as work to identify targets for future drilling campaigns.
The Ifri project is one of the first in the portfolio to be strengthened by Critical Mineral Resources with approximately thirty permits between December 2023 and January 2024, and is showing encouraging results. Located in a mining belt known for its large copper, silver and gold mines (Imiter, Tiout, Bou Skour and Tagmout), it is also close to areas where artisanal mining work takes place.
CMR has been working for several months to build a portfolio of critical mineral projects in Morocco, with a particular focus on copper. Key assets include the Anzar Copper (copper, silver), Meseta and Ighrem (manganese, copper-silver) projects.
