It will be a unique scent specific to big European nights this Tuesday evening at Signal Iduna Park, on the occasion of the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Dortmund and Atlético de Madrid. In front of their audience and with the support of more than 80,000 spectators engaged in the cause, the German club will try to reverse the trend.
In the first leg, Edin Terzic’s men lost against the Colchoneros (2-1). Sébastien Haller, author of last week’s goal of hope in the last ten minutes, is out of this second act, having been hit in the left ankle in the league on Saturday against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
If Atlético had then imposed itself thanks to the performances of Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino, its X-factor is called Antoine Griezmann. Scored twice this weekend in La Liga against Girona (3-1), the French national team player will once again be the Madrid team’s great asset.
This season, the Mâcon native has scored six goals and provided an assist in nine C1 matches. He will be keen to take his team as far as possible in the competition, having already played and lost a Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2016 (1-1, 3 losses to 5).
This ambition overlaps with Dortmund’s. Marco Reus and his team have not reached this stage of the event since the 2012/2013 season. They lost to Franck Ribéry’s Bayern Munich in the final (2-1).
