“That’s unheard of!” : the handball players of CA Évron are preparing to play a historic French Cup final in Bercy

There will be a lot of atmosphere this Saturday evening at the Accor Arena in Bercy in Paris. 450 supporters of CA Évron will take the trip in six buses to follow the final of the French regional cup between the handball players of their club and the Iséroises of US Beaurepaire.

A meeting to be played at 18:45, as the curtain rises on the match between Paris Saint Germain and Nantes in the final of the Professional French Men’s Cup. “It’s just incredible, I never thought so, says Anaïs Després, left-back on the team that plays in Nationale 3 and who still has problems realizing that she will play this final in Bercy, We can’t wait and why not lift the title, we’re really going to do everything to do it.”

Mairene Sorin, left wing, had the idea in the back of her mind to play at the top of the bill. “I remember, when I was younger, I told my mother that I would like to go there one day, but I really thought it was a dream. I went to the Ambrières club and Ambrières had already been there [en finale] A few years ago I saw the poster and asked my mother what it was. She explained it to me and I told her one day I would go there with my team.”

“Very complete” opponents

To follow this example from Ambrières-les-Vallées, Évron coach Nathan Contreras, the first club to win this French regional handball cup in 2010 a small video the tactics of the other finalist, Beaurepaire, also in Nationale 3. “It seems to be a very complete team, which seems to have a bit of the same profile as us, with not a single player scoring the most goals or two or three players, but rather a big collective and quite complete, so we will have to be at our level if we want to be able to perform.”

Regardless of the result, the president of CA Évron Handball (265 members) Jean-Charles Guédon is already very proud of his players. “Expectations is above all about having fun, to have a great finale, to have a great time because it is going to be unforgettable for them. This is something that is usually never done in a career at this level. On the other hand, it is especially the rise to Nationale 2 that will be exceptional since it will be the first time for the club. So we are very, very proud and very happy about all of this.”

Évron is really doing well with access to the 4th French Division at the end of the season. During the victories in the previous rounds, a ritual was established by the youngest member of the Évron team, Cali Gougeon, aged 17, who “I like to set the mood. It de-stresses me and eventually it makes the girls laugh. So at the end of the game, at the moment, we like to sing the little football players’ music Oh my, oh my, what happened? We messed with them!”

A song that we hope to hear this Saturday night at the Accor Arena. France Bleu Mayenne will bring you this final live from Bercy from 18.45 among the Évron supporters.
